The Sim School Story

This is the story of Sim School. This is how it started, why it started and the timeline of events that led to where we our today.

The build up

Myself, Jamie Gurney have been racing go-karts since I was 4 years old. racing is a part of my life that I have always been doing.

I raced in bambinos from 5-8 and when I was 9 I moved into easykart. I raced in easykart for many years, learning so much about driving and racecraft, and when I was 13-14 I won the Daniel Ricciardo Series Kadet Championship.

During this time I had no access to race cars and my dad built simulators to help me improve my driving ability whilst not at the track. Legend.

He built the first motion simulator a 3DOF Motion Simulator in 2017.

The First Simulator

Why we built it

In 2020 I won the Daniel Ricciardo Series and planned to move into race cars.

Sadly at this time lockdown started and racing came to a complete halt.

During lockdown there was nothing to do and my father spent most of his days designing and building the first 6DOF Motion Simulator and created an incredible machine.

This simulator was built to help me practice during lockdown where I was not able to drive, it also was to help me learn how to drive cars on the simulator as realistic as possible.

6DOF Motion Test

Training with the simulator

I started practicing in a Ginetta G40 in 2021 and from my first ever session at Snetterton circuit my driver coach Will Arif couldn't believe that I hadn't been to the circuit before as I had very accurate lines and braking points. This moment proved that the simulator was working.

From there on I kept practicing on the simulator improving my skills and learning how race cars handled on the simulator to incredible accuracy.

This helped me so much to stay on top of my game with my driving ability such as knowing brake and throttle control, knowing circuits in great detail etc. due to my limited practice in the car.

The forming of Sim School

I started to realise the power of the 6DOF Motion Simulator which I had access to and I started to use the tool with great purpose to become a high level racing driver.

I started to train friends how to drive on the simulator and I quite enjoyed teaching people the skill of racing. This continued for a while and then I eventually started occasionally training clients on the simulator occasionally.

This developed into a passion where I enjoy teaching people how to become greater drivers and this is how Sim School was formed.
